Following an Auckland City Council study, a greenfield site on the edge of the existing Beachlands Community was earmarked for a future retail development. The plan envisaged moving the heavily constrained Beachlands retail area from the centre of town to the new site where a larger, well planned and future-proofed retail development could be implemented. The WMZA master plan for the development is based around a High Street concept with retail, offices, cafes, bars and restaurants fronting both sides of the street. Behind the High Street a large supermarket will be established with ample parking, situated in a heavily landscaped environment. Future development areas will be landscaped until required.
