Mainfreight’s design brief called for a distinctive, strongly branded 1,250m2 two-level office block and a 16,500m2 warehouse. Informed by movement, the façade and roof’s dynamic angular forms combine with Mainfreight’s italicised brand elements to create a bold street presence. The office has a clear external entry path with the Freight terminal sitting behind it. The feeling of dynamic movement is continued through the interior with an angular steel stair wrapping up the double-height atrium, leading to the second level reception area. From this office level, an inward-facing full-height glazed wall offers impressive grandstand views over the warehouse operation. The ground floor contains staff amenities, including drivers’ sleep rooms and a full commercial kitchen, as well as a drive-through for customer pick-up.
