The client brief called for an internal conversion of an existing office and warehouse into a facility to grow and process medicinal cannabis. The large open plan high stud warehouse was partitioned into large, insulated panel rooms where the plants were hydroponically grown in very controlled conditions. The associated substantial plant and services were located either alongside these rooms or supported on new structural frames and gantries in the space between the new ceilings and the existing warehouse roof. The warehouse floor space was only partially utilised, leaving room for future expansion of the facility as the industry gains further public and regulatory acceptance.
The large existing office building was largely reconfigured over two floors to suit a much smaller workforce than that it was originally designed for - with re-arranged amenities and lunchroom, and the addition of an industrial goods lift.
