Cider Building Lobby, Auckland

Cider Building Lobby, Auckland

  • Client:
    Progressive Enterprises
  • Location:
    Ponsoby, Auckland

The angular architecture and material palette of Ponsonby’s Cider Building have been reinterpreted and subtly applied to the interior. WMZA was the project architect for the building as well as the concept designer behind Countdown’s new supermarket. The WMZ Interior team designed the entry and lift lobby for the office block. The lobby area has an urban design aesthetic incorporating shuttered concrete, basalt floor tiles and angular timber panels. The space is dominated by a sculptural timber-clad lift shaft with concealed strip lights that highlight the articulated faces. Suspended within in the cavernous void hangs an installation of pendant light fittings with their flex forming an inverted parabolic arch. An in-situ portrait by street artist Component, representing the cultural heritage of the area, softens the imposing 7.5m high shuttered concrete wall.
